About Ej’s

Ej’s Barber Shop was founded in 2007 by Eric Humberger after he bought the business from a retiring barber named Dean.

Dean gave Eric the opportunity to cut hair and helped train him when he first started. Eric had the chance to work at other shops and did for a short period of time, but Dean’s Barber Shop always felt like home. So he came back and decided to buy the business when Dean wanted to retire.

To that point, the path of business ownership wasn’t even on Ej’s radar. He wanted to be a barber — that part was certain, but beyond that he hadn’t made too many plans.

But…

Once he took the shop over, he hit the ground running and never looked back. Sure, there were a few tough years in the beginning as he built momentum, but he was able to create the environment he wanted. He was able to create an atmosphere that HE wanted. With that atmosphere came an old school barber shop vibe that was undeniable. Combine that with a group of talented young barbers and Eric was off to the races and lapping the competition.

Fast forward 15 years, and Ej’s Barber Shop is the go-to barber shop on the East side of Pittsburgh. They have clients that travel 2 hours for a haircut, because they don’t trust anyone else to cut their hair. The shop has been upgraded, new barbers have been brought in, and a second location has been opened. Ej’s customer loyalty is off the charts.

The story of Ej’s is way more than a history lesson about a barber shop. It’s the success story of a small local business that has seen continued growth for 15 years. Ej’s Barber Shop is the gold standard for how other barber shops should be measured.
